1 year later
Skyler stood at the doors with a grin on their face and the suit from I Write Sins Not Tragedies because ‘it’s their wedding and why not.’ Finally, it’s time. Skyler’s nana and gramps file up the aisle, wondering where Lavender’s grandparents are, then the parents, wondering the same. Skyler makes their way up the aisle After the wedding party and the priest took his place at the altar while the guests find their seats. All are in place, and the flower girl (Skyler’s 4 year old niece, Joan) started skipping down the aisle bearing a crown of black roses, dropping deep burgundy orchid petals. She got to the altar and stood in place. The ring bearer, Joan’s brother Virgil, walked right up, blushing furiously because 100+ people were looking at him. Skyler gently patted him on the back and comforted him, knowing he was a very anxious child. The organs are playing and the doors open. Skyler sees Lavender in a breathtakingly gorgeous black dress and a long veil. She walks down the aisle slowly and gracefully.
“Friends and Family of the Lavender and Skyler, welcome and thank you for being here on this important day. We are gathered together to celebrate the very special love between Lavender and Skyler, by joining them in marriage.
All of us need and desire to love and to be loved.
And the highest form of love between two people is within a committed relationship.
Lavender and Skyler, your marriage today is the public and legal joining of your souls that have already been united as one in your hearts,” The priest began. “Marriage will allow you a new environment to share your lives together, standing together to face life and the world, hand-in-hand. Marriage is going to expand you as individuals, define you as a couple, and deepen your love for one another.
To be successful, you will need strength, courage, patience and a really good sense of humor.” that got a few chuckles. “So, let your marriage be a time of waking each morning and falling in love with each other all over again. Your vows,”
“Lavender, I promise to love and care for you, and I will try in every way to be worthy of your love. I will always be honest with you, kind, patient and forgiving. I promise to try to be on time. But most of all, I promise to be a true and loyal friend to you,” Skyler vowed.
“I promise to be here to wipe away tears of sadness, to elicit tears of joy, and to cry out to everyone who will listen how much I love you. You have done so much for me, I couldn’t possibly do anything to… repay all you’ve done for me. I love you more than anything,” Lavender squeezed her loved one’s hand.
“Do you, Skyler, take Lavender to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you swear before God and this company that you will love, honor, cherish, respect, and comfort her, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health? Do you promise to share your joys and sorrows, help her when she needs help and turn to her first when you need help, and forsaking all others, to be faithful to her alone?”

Virgil brought the rings over to the couple. Lavender picked one up, took Skyler’s hand, and slid the ring on. Skyler took the other ring and slid it on Lavender’s finger.
“You may now kiss the bride,”
Skyler and Lavender shared a heart-stopping kiss, which was ironic because both of their hearts were beating out of their chests. Lavender and Skyler walked back down the aisle, hand in hand.
Lavender and Skyler head off with the photographer to do a photo shoot. At the very end, the photographer says; “Skyler, we want to show you something. Spin for me, Lavender,” Lavender does as she is told. The black dresses frills lift up to show a beautiful rainbow pride flag flying with the momentum of her twirl. Skyler was too impressed for words. Instead, they just walked up and kissed her. (Lavender almost fell because she was dizzy and the kiss was a surprise, but Skyler caught her.)
“Come on, Venni, let’s make our grand entrance,” Skyler laughed.
Skyler and Lavender made their way toward the ballroom. With them were the wedding party and Skyler’s parents. The bridesmaids and groomsmen went in first, the parents next and then Skyler, twirling their bride to much applause.
“For the first time, I introduce Mx. and Mrs. Skyler Roman!”
“I bet you’re hungry,” said Skyler, being very awkward, suddenly realizing that many, many, many people were staring at them. Suddenly, Virgil looked up at them and smiled, which filled Skyler with courage.
“The open buffet and bar is now open!” Skyler said, gesturing towards the buffet and bar. Guests scattered and ate and laughed until it was time for the dance. Lavender lead Skyler up to the dance floor. Can’t Help Falling In Love began and Skyler took Lavender for a slow dance. All they could focus on was each other, and it was it most magical moment of their lives. After that was done, Love on Top by Beyoncé started playing. When she said ‘bring the beat in’ half the crowd, including Lavender and Skyler, yelled “ANYTHING FOR YOU, BEYONCÉ!” and then broke out into laughter. They remembered that they should be dancing with everyone, not just their significant other.
“Everyone join in!”
Nobody wasted a second. Everyone was dancing their hearts out.
“Are you losing your steam? Well we can fix that.” Skyler said an hour later, holding a cake knife.
After everyone has had a slice of cake or three, (or seven, in Joan’s case, making her all wound up.) Lavender introduced fruit kabobs for people who don’t have a sweet tooth or are on a diet. Everyone danced for another hour, and then it was time to say farewell. Skyler and Lavender left with linked arms and linked hearts.
